Spray Foam Insulation in Scottsdale, Arizona

Scottsdale homes are, on average, larger and more architecturally ambitious than the Valley norm, and that changes the insulation problem rather than simply scaling it up. Vaulted and cathedral ceilings, great rooms with large west facing glazing, complex rooflines and generous attic volumes all behave differently from a simple gabled tract house.

Desert Shield Spray Foam works throughout Scottsdale, from the older central neighborhoods to the newer north Scottsdale developments.

Vaulted Ceilings and Complex Rooflines

A vaulted ceiling has no attic above it to hold insulation. The assembly is thin, the space is tight, and there is often a ventilation channel that has to be preserved. This is the classic case for closed-cell foam, because thermal resistance per inch is the constraint and there simply is not depth available for a thicker, lower density material.

Complex rooflines add junctions, and junctions are where continuity of insulation breaks down. Valleys, dormers, changes of pitch and the knee walls in rooms with sloped ceilings are all places where an otherwise good insulation job quietly stops. Finding those breaks is most of what the assessment is for.

Tile Roofs and Large Attic Volumes

Concrete and clay tile is the dominant roof covering across Scottsdale. Tile over a vented attic gives you options, because there is room to work at either the attic floor or the roof deck.

Larger homes here often have substantial attic volume with the air handler and long duct runs inside it. Conditioning a very large attic volume is not always the right answer, and sometimes the better plan is a hybrid: seal and insulate the deck over the portion containing the mechanical equipment, and treat the remainder conventionally. That is a judgment made on site.

Casitas, Guest Houses and Conversions

Detached casitas and guest houses are common in Scottsdale and are frequently under insulated relative to the main residence, particularly where they were added later. Being small and detached, they have a high ratio of exposed surface to conditioned volume, so they gain heat quickly.

Garage conversions and pool houses fall into the same category. They were built as unconditioned space and then asked to behave as living space.
